I feel like I’ve been crazy busy. Just completed two full months and the new job and feel like there’s even more work to be done. I’ve spent some time in houston and some time in austin. I don’t think there is anything good about houston.

I feel tired lately. I think it all started when I attempted to jam a week and a half with as much stuff as possible. It started when I spent a wednesday - friday down at the houston office (which is way boring at night) then I drove out to austin for a meeting on sunday that finalized last minute details of the austin dog fair. Since I hadn’t been home all week I figured I had better head to dallas sunday night and monday to make sure my house was still standing. (which it was) Then tuesday morning I headed back down to Austin to hang around the work crew that was at the Pubcon event that was going on. I hung out some with good ‘ol MD (who made me go to this awful internet marketing event with a bunch of lame folks), but mostly spent the time working at thunderbird coffee - which is a great little hangout. THEN, on friday I drove back to dallas to meet up with a bunch of old work friends - laura, john, jen and corey - then we all hopped in a car and drove to the great casino land of the north (which took forever because of some wreck on I-35) this trip included the blind set-up with laura’s friend. Which was well - neither really great or bad at all - and I bet it would go better with a do-over. For her part, I can say it probably wasn’t her fault she was very attractive and seemed like a nice person. I think we can however lay to rest the fact that I suck at blind dates - I have a terrible time talking to people I don’t know especially when it seems like there is the built in pressure that they are there to specifically meet you. Overall, the main take away was - I stuck some money in a slot machine and left feeling like I had smoked a carton of someone else’s cigarettes. THEN after getting back into dallas around 3:30 am or so I slept it off - then woke up got in my car and drove down to Austin for dog fair weekend. I got to spend some time getting to know people in the group a little better and hanging out with some SFA college kids down to help out with the dog fair on their spring break. The dog fair itself went better than anyone could have ever thought - I would guess that over 400 people showed up and had a great time. I suppose we’ll have to do it again sometime. Then after that was over on sunday - I drove back to dallas.

I just feel tired from writing all that and I’m not really sure how to conclude this post, so…

the end.

In case you haven’t heard and you care - I left my job and Standing Dog Interactive. I had a great time during my stay at Standing Dog and worked with some outstanding folks that I hope to stay in touch with. Today marks my first week in a new job, which is a departure from the hotel marketing and SEO I was doing at the Dog, but I am excited for the challenge of doing something new.

Along with the job change comes a physical move as well - over the next few months I will be transitioning to Austin, TX and will be permanently located somewhere in north central Austin by June. I’m excited to be making the move and think it’s going to be great fun meeting new friends. Some of my current friends, Tim and Jaya are making the transition to Austin as well - it’ll be a busy time for them personally - Tim will finish up graduate school at the end of May, and they’re expecting a baby girl right around that time as well. Tim and I were roommates at one point, but I really feel like we’re better friends now that we’ve spent this last year in Dallas hanging out. I’ve really enjoyed taking trips down to Austin with Tim and Jaya - the Sunday night drive back to Dallas as been a great time for me personally just to get to talk to Tim about life and where it’s going. The one burning question is what burger will their child prefer? It’s previously documented that Jaya is a fan of the big mac, but Tim leans strongly towards the whopper.

I’ll leave you with the words of Gladys of Austin, TX.

So, it’s another year and I also need another blog post so I can see what things look like with multiple entries. I rung my new year in at a party down the street thrown together by my friend and former co-worker john - good times were had and laughs as well.

In other news, John doesn’t work with me anymore. He will definitely be missed - cause well, in general, developers can be a pain and john actually wasn’t. I guess I’ve been lucky since the two developers I’ve worked with full-time (john and charles) were fun to be around and could actually code.

Most people tell you some kind of resolutions or goals they have for the New Year - lest you read this and think I lack purpose or ambition - I’m sure I have some goals - they’re either just personal or boring. But I’ll give you some of the boring ones:

Get a Dog

Increase PHP skills by a factor of ten

Get a new chair

More resolutions and goals TBA.

so yeah - as it turns out - I installed a blog almost a year ago. I was originally going to write about things related to the internet and my day job, but then I realized there are already a few great places and a ton of really bad places you can read about that stuff. While I may have some of my own perspective to shine on the subject, I’m not in it to attract clients or have everyone point out how smart they think I am so in the end I believe keeping a lower profile is the best way for me to approach things. There are some other reasons why having a blog benefits me, but what I’m left to write about or how often I will actually write is pretty much up in the air - hence the tag-line of this blog. Eventually I’ll get around to fixing this thing up, but for a while it’ll likely be broken. Catch you later.
